The West Virginia Power is a minor league baseball team who has participated in the Class A Southern Atlantic League since they were first founded in 1987. The Power have been affiliated with the Pittsburgh Pirates for the past 3 years, but previously were affiliated iwht the Milwaukee Brewers, Toronto Blue Jays, KC Royals, Cincinnati Reds, and Chicago Cubs.
While the Power is just an A-level team, and most players will not make the major leagues, several extremely successful major league players have played for the Power. One former Power player is Alex Rios. Rios came up to the majors through the Blue Jays. He has been in the majors for 7 years and presently plays for the White Sox. Rios has played in two All Star games and is presently the highest paid Centerfielder in MLB.
Another success story has been Ryan Braun. Braun came up to the majors through the Milwaukee Brewers and has been dominant ever since. He won the NL ROY award in 2007 and has been an All Star for the past four seasons.
Maybe the most successful former-Power player ever is Trevor Hoffman. Hoffman played in the major leagues for 18 years. In that time he became MLB’s all-time saves leader and played in 7 All Star games.
